Coffee Makers & Brewers
Wake up to a proper pot. Filter coffee makers that brew a clean, full-flavoured coffee at the press of a button.
How to choose a filter coffee maker
A good filter coffee maker brews a full, balanced pot at the press of a button. These three questions will help you find the right one for your kitchen.
-
How much coffee do you drink?
Brewing for one or two? A compact machine saves counter space. For a busy household or guests, choose a full-size machine that brews a whole jug.
-
Glass jug or thermal jug?
A glass jug on a hot plate suits you if you drink your coffee straight away. A thermal jug keeps coffee hot for longer without stewing it.
-
Which coffee will you brew?
Filter machines love ground coffee with a filter grind, or freshly ground beans. Light and medium roasts bring out sweetness and clarity in the pot.
Coffee maker questions, answered
Which coffee works best in a filter coffee maker?
Choose ground coffee with a filter grind, or grind whole beans to a medium grind just before brewing. Light and medium roasts work especially well, bringing out sweetness and clarity in the cup.
How much coffee should I use?
A good starting point is around 60g of ground coffee per litre of water. Use a little more for a stronger pot or a little less for a lighter one, then adjust to taste.
Why does brewing temperature matter?
Water between 92°C and 96°C draws out coffee's flavour evenly. Too cool and coffee can taste sour and thin; too hot and it can taste bitter.
How do I keep my coffee maker brewing well?
Rinse the jug and filter basket after each use and descale regularly, especially in hard water areas. Follow the instructions supplied with your machine for the best results.
